Mood: cautiously optimistic

Okay, I promised an update regarding the move and here it is.

I’m still a bit ambivalent about this whole move. A large part of me will be intensely glad to be out of Alpine Meadows, but another part is still waiting for the next shoe to fall.

Parkwood Green accepted our application (they don’t do credit checks, in fact crime seems to be the only thing they’re concerned with) and the bank went through on financing.

The (new) trailer was moved into the park yesterday, though the crew almost got into an accident on the way over. We had a sudden snow squall go through, which reduced visibility to almost zero. Apparently some lady hit the breaks unexpectedly, a semi swerved to avoid her and almost hit our trailer. However nothing happened and they finally made it into the spot… only to discover our water line had broken during the night. ^^;

Mom visited this morning on the way home and saw that everything is hooked up now, which should mean we can begin moving our stuff in. I’m still not sure which room I’m taking, but we can hash that out when we can actually move in.

The only other ugly thing is that we’re going to have to rent a power-washer to clean the trailer once it gets warm and the shed is full of garbage from the previous owner. >_> But that’s not too bad, considering.

Trudy, the owner of Cedar Mobile Home Service, is a miracle-worker. I swear. She’s taken care of all the permits, phone calls, even managed to talk a building inspector to give us a permit on his day off. Right now it’s looking like we’ll be able to live in the new trailer Monday or Tuesday. Trudy is good, let me tell you.

Another bad thing is that we couldn’t stay with Comcast. They don’t offer service in Sparta, even though it looks like they’re only a mile away. *sighs* Bye-bye anime, Food Network, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Anyroad, we’re going to take a load of junk to the trailer today and then we’re going out with Jodi tomorrow to pick out new appliances. (Note to self, turn Amazon store to vacation and get financial aid papers filled out!)

In other news, my main blog can now be set to friends only! (Haha!) I knew there had to be a plug-in to do this. ^_^

Instead of trying to inform everyone who needed the password, I can just send them logon information and be able to set things just like I can do on LiveJournal.

I just know I have some pretty weird people checking out my blog and I wanted a better way to protect sensitive entries. This is still my online diary, afterall. Yes, I want to share with my friends and family, but I don’t necessarily want my classmates reading my health-related posts. (or rants full of obscenities.)

Don’t worry, this isn’t going 100% friends only. I was just looking for a better way to protect posts to varying degrees.

Taking a cue from Jasson, I decided to make a mirror site for my blog here. ^_^ Pretty quick I’ll link it up to my Bio page or something; since I really should fix all the links to my friends pages and well, stuff.

And in other news, back to work on the site redesign. I’m beginning to plan out the new look for the Library. Actually, I’m contemplating my rules again.

I’ve been spending quite a large amount of time trying to advertise Lunaescence, and I am getting more traffic. However, the Library has pretty much ground to a halt.

I’m honestly wondering if my rules are simply too strict for my audience. On the flip side, I really don’t want my page becoming a haven for garbage and ego stroking - plus, from feedback from some of my authors, they want my rules to remain in place or else they’d stop posting. I feel like I’m stuck between Scylla and Charybdis, in some ways.

I know I should be patient, but - seriously - I am not a good one to wait. What patience I had evaporated waiting for the house to sell. Despite the fact that I’m moved (and have been for almost 2 months now) I’m finding myself stuck in high gear.

Well, we’re back. ^_^ I’ve missed blogging so badly, so bare with me as I summarize several weeks worth of blogging. lol

The move went smoother than expected, though Mom’s spent enough time screeching today to unpleasantly remind me of the Freaks. We got cable TV and internet today at about 11am, so we’re back online for good. Letme tell you, though…. that Comcast guy was a friggin moron. I had to tell him several times that I already HAD a Cable Modem and Ethernet Card. He was all set to rip my machine open and pop in a $30 ethernet card, when all I needed was to be actually connected. (Aka “Gimme the damn disk before I have to hurt someone.”) And he comes in bringing all kinds of cable when the connections that come up through the floor are nearly 8 feet long. Anyway, now all our TVs are hooked up for the first time in years and I’m on a faster connection than I’ve been on… aside from the really fast ones at college in the labs. The During that time, somehow, Mom’s forgotten how to use the remote other than to blast things she thinks we should desperately hear and to surf the channels as gratuitously as any guy. So she hits one stupid button and then it’s “SALLY, GET OUT HERE!” in the most aggravating tone of voice she can muster. She’s also become a great one for complaining that she has to exercise, but then when I invite her to walk she turns me down. I suppose this is just a sign she’s going to let her weight go again. I also warned her that we needed to set up a checking account in order to get our internet phone, which she conviently ignored. The moment it wouldn’t work, we had trashtalk Comcast time. (Yes, I know… I still think their guys are idiots, so I can’t talk.) However, she also spent a huge amount of time calling Jass and I out to see this or that on a Cable channel we never had before. *sigh*

My mom’s juvenille antics aside, the move has felt more like a vacation than the horrible amount of work it usually does. The usual nightmares never sat in and we’ve chruned through most of the boxes. What’s left is pretty much contingent on other things. Such as my new computer desk, a new entertainment center, or to be put away into cupboards, etc.

The girls are settling in well, though a week ago we had a bit of a scare. Our back door doesn’t latch very well, so unless it’s locked there’s a high probability that even a draft can open it. And when it unlatches, it not only opens… it swings wide open. Well… about a week ago, it happened and we weren’t aware that it had happened. Echo slipped out of it and was gone for about an hour before we noticed. Five hours of frantic searching went by before my baby was home. Since then, Kaze has been very clingy to all of us, but especially Echo and I. In fact, she wakes me up in the morning at about 7:30am and then has to have a cuddle session before I can do anything. If I don’t cuddle her, I might as well forget about walking because she’ll trip me. XD I can’t say Echo has been avoiding the door, but so far she hasn’t had any interest in going outside… so hopefully that escape will be the last.

Where was I…. oh yeah… the move.

Welp… time’s here. ^_^ Monday evening or Tuesday morning I’ll be calling and canceling my internet service and then taking my computer down. Tuesday at around 9am the final trash gets hauled away; at 1pm the Moving Truck arrives to move us to our new home. Of course, I can’t guarantee how often we’ll be on to check everything - we’ll try for at least once a week at the library or friends’ houses. It might be just a week, might be a couple, might even be longer. Until then, you can contact me at one of my two e-mail addresses in my contact info, might take a bit, but I’ll eventually respond.

I love you all and will miss everyone dearly! ^_^ See you later!
- Sally

Ick… I’m sorry to hear that, Theresa. I was hoping my bad luck had just passed, not passed on to someone else - especially not you. *hugs tight* After we’re hooked back up for internet and stuff, I’ll try to catch you on MSN. *super big hugs* Give everyone a hug from us!

Oh, and before I forget…. The ice-cream is Ben & Jerry’s “Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch”, Mom and Jass got “Brownie Batter.” ^_^

We purchased the manufactured house today! $22,000 later, we were given the rules for the community we’re moving to and were told the house should be ready to move into on Monday. ^___^ That includes Deposit, Lot Rent, and Pet Deposit so we should be all set for a least September. They have to finish a few repairs and get the Gas company in to connect the gas and it should be all set. We’re going to be calling Two Men & A Truck tomorrow and setting up the move for the 24th or 25th. Packing is almost complete, but I feel like we’ve reached an impasse. The prior owners here [not new house] left tons of junk around and we’re required to get rid of it before we leave. Fortunately, bright and early tomorrow morning the trash is being hauled away. Later tomorrow we’re also going to be looking for a new car. After that point, we should be just about set, aside from getting jobs when we get there.

I promised myself I wouldn’t begin the Lunaescence.com redesign until after the move was complete, we were well settled in, and I had a job. I’ve never been good at waiting. ^^;; I made out a rough sketch for each section (Main, FanFiction, FanArt, Forums, etc.), suddenly I was in Paint Shop Pro forming the images, and then I was in Notepad laying the dumb thing out.

I don’t think I’ll ever get positioning in CSS, though…. For the index, I have two menus on either side of the page and then the main content between them. I got the menus placed beautifully, but then the center section wouldn’t work. When I got it to work it didn’t want to move up where it belonged vertically, but when I fixed that, it was no longer where I wanted it horizontally. :-P Frustrated, I gave up and made a set of nested tables that I nudged down where it belonged using CSS. Now that solution worked. A few more hours more work and the layout should be ready to put up… only to be benched until I finish moving, have internet connected, and settle in. XD

Well, over the past few days I’ve come to the conclusion that Theresa’s hugs are major good luck. ^_^ *super huge hugs back to her* We told the couple over in the trailer in Parkwood Green thanks, but no thanks. We’ve found a trailer with even more amenities than theirs for only $25,000. Now if only we could hurry up, get down there, and see it… probably even make an offer on it… we’d be all set. Apparently, this new park is HUGE and filled with trailers for sale by their owners. Mostly, they seem to be elderly people seeking to get out, move to a assisted living place, or are moving in with their kids / grandkids. The $25,000 one belongs to an elderly couple and the husband, sadly, has alzheimers. The Kids/Grandkids are building their own home and are planning to move them in as well to help take care of him. The lady seems very nice and I can’t imagine them putting the trailer up for sale if the house isn’t close to being finished. We’ve survived an entire summer in an 8×12 travel trailer and we can survive a few weeks at a friend’s house. (I doubt we’d be able to stay at Poppa’s, since Caroline is supposibly allergic to animals and I don’t think their condo allows animals.) So anyway.. that rocks our world.

Mom’s in a good mood today; she had nine hour shift today - so we’re going to be rolling in some nice money. She’s talking about - since Conrad is driving us down to GR on Tuesday anyway for closing here - seeing about how much a Taxi would cost to take us to the park and then see if Poppa would come pick us up and take us home.

Packing is going along nicely. I think a few more days and Jass and I will have much of the unnecessary things in the house all packed and ready to go. Mom still needs to contact Maryann and see if we can “borrow” her shed to store our crap in…. maybe Jodi too. Anyway, much love to everyone!
