Please don’t laugh, but… I’ve finally finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
All I have to say is DAMN! What a way to end a book. From here on out, you’ll have to highlight if you want to see what I’ve written.
For the first time, I was really surprised that Harry was spot-on with his theories. I was actually pretty disappointed with the adults. Harry has ended up right so many damn times, I would think they really would have listened to him a bit better. All they would have had to do was roll up Draco’s sleeve. But I suppose he has been after him for long, everyone may have just gotten tired of hearing about it.
On Snape: I am really not sure what to think of that man, I really am. Part of me still really likes him, if nothing more than a well-constructed character. If not for how big a jerk he can act, he honestly does remind me a little of my chemistry teacher. (Who, incidentily made it perfectly clear that he wanted another man’s job too.) I don’t think he was framed, like so many fangirls claim. I really can’t wait to see what Ms. Rowling does for Book 7.
On Dumbledore: Well, I didn’t bawl my eyes out when he was killed. But his funeral did get me all teary-eyed. What did get to me was him drinking all that potion. (More on that below) At the same time, there hasn’t been the definitive “Dumbledore is dead” like she said for Sirius. Really makes me wonder.
Freaky Scene: I’ve read some pretty twisted books and watched some pretty twisted movies. (Salvador Dali’s film, “L Age dOr” tops out at #1) But, Ms. Rowling really outdid herself with the portrayal of the Inferi. Not so much when they were attacking, but while Harry and Dumbledore were in the boat and floating over them. I was really impressed. Then to follow that up with that potion…. wow. What on earth did that stuff do to him? That was really hard to read. Suddenly Dumbledore was so utterly mortal that it was stunning and terrifying at once. So what exactly did he mean when he said that the potion wouldn’t kill him? We knew that his breathing became shallow, he had massive hallucinations, and that water was restricted. Was it meant to put the drinker into a state of suspended animation, easily woken up by a good splash of water? It’s very… interesting.
R.A.B: Ah, another mystery. This has probably been tossed around for ages, but I tend to avoid the Harry Potter sites unless absolutely necessary. R.A.B = Regulus Black? It did say, I forget which book, that he was killed shortly after he left the Death Eaters. Maybe he had time to do something with that locket. Who knows? Ms. Rowling will have to reveal it in the next book no matter what. Now that I’ve finally finished the book, maybe I might have to go a-hunting.
I’m not sure what else to say. I can safely say that book 7 is going to be interesting.
